Happy Birthday Dear Carlo! We were just talking about you today, in room 119. Did you work at an Italian restaurant with your brothers? We’re trying to remember the name of the restaurant. I’m thinking it was near Foster beach.

Mary remembers the restaurant too. It was on the corner of Foster and Sheridan. We can picture it but can’t remember the name!

It was called Laurie’s Pizzeria on Broadway and Foster. Interesting you should ask: the building was demolished last week. My brothers and I worked there from 1960 through 1975, on and off. Thank you all for your good wishes. Peace and love.

Thank goodness you have answered this question! Now Ludy, Mary Brown and I can get on with our lives. The reason this came up is because I recall that you or your brother once gave bottles of wine to all the guys you worked with for Mother’s Day because you said they were all a bunch of muthas.

I seem to remember that year we gave half a card (Happy Mutha……’s Day) to some of our friends. Laurie’s opened in 1948 by John Laurie’s father, Jerry and Uncle Ralph. John ran it most of the time and the two old guys were there only weekends by the time I got there in ’62. We made more pizzas per day than anyone in Chicago during the Lombardo tenure.
