Well.. the Hermits from Europe are different than the U.S… in the mid 70’s Peter Noon lost the rights to Herman Hermits in Europe.. so you may note that in the U.S. he always uses ..starring or … featuring…

The Hermits in Europe only consist of the 1964 replacement drummer (Whitman) and maybe Karl Green within the last year or so… Hopwood (the cowriter with Noone of all the hits) isn’t a member and Leckenby is dead..

He was probably considered by the rest as a walking penis with ears due to him being the lead singer and writer and more educated than the rest… and the original name of the group was Herman and the Hermits…

Nice “change of subject” Mr. Wheet……. I am cracking up over the “pulling a Gilbert” comments, but we all know how odd I have always been. Sending you a picture Richard

      • avatar Richard says:

        Got them.. thanks

      • Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert says:

Birgit, I’ve only known you for a very short time, but I think you were ‘cracked up’ waaaayyyyy! before the Gilbert ‘thing’.

        • avatar Richard says:

Yep .. I remember the days that Sue, Birgit and I would go out for tattoos and drinks… they got the needles and I drank away their pain …

      • avatar Janis says:

So nice to see you on the website, Birgit! And Happy Birthday to you on November 9th! :) I love a lot of the pics of you from Key West, so put a favorite one in pic of the day!

        • avatar Richard says:

I cannot believe that you posted a picture of Birgit and Sue in a transvestite bar… how embarrassing for them…

    • avatar Janis says:

You know your stuff, Richard. The albums you gave me (yes, you didn’t want them but it was still a very nice thing to do!) led to a lifetime of fun for me! Thank you! :)

Those classic costumes ARE kind of creepy. I think there are restrictions on what kids can dress up as at school parties, no Jasons or Freddy Kruegers, certainly not these devils. I think there are restrictions on clown costumes too!

    • Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert says:

Let’s see….no costumes on Halloween……no Nativity scenes on Christmas….no fireworks on 4th of July….or better yet, 4th of July will be celebrated on the 1st, or 2nd, or 6th….Oktoberfests are in September. No wonder Tevya the Dairy Man is yelling to the heavens, or at least to the Fiddler on the Roof, “Tradition!”

This may be a first but I agree with you! And look what’s happened to Thanksgiving, which is barely acknowledged as it is. Hurry up and choke down your turkey, leave your family and go to the mall! Very sad.

      • avatar Janis says:

Good points, all of them, Jim! I second (or third?) this discussion. And as Sue pointed out in the Seeley Pub post, when did the World Series get to be this late in the year? It is 50 degrees in Manhattan today…pretty tough to warm up those muscles in this cool air. And the World Series in running into November?????? btw, When Joe was in grade school, the rule was “no masks covering the face.” You could only use makeup. “No toy weapons of any kind.”

        • Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert says:

Wow, some things have really become lax at schools. I remember when Richard was sent home because he wasn’t wearing a belt, and not to return until he washed off the lip gloss and rouge as well.

        • Sue B Sue B says:

I think you have pulled a Gilbert.

          • avatar Richard says:

The devil made me do it… or maybe it was the aftermath of the haggis I had in Dallas the week before.. interesting meal when combined with mashed turnips and parsnips… washed down with a fine Scottish ale.. make that plural…

          • Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert says:

Ok, Ok, enough of this conversation referring to genital areas and pulling a Gilbert!

          • Sue B Sue B says:

I didn’t say he pulled YOUR gilbert.

  3. Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert says:

    Costumes? What costumes?

    • avatar Janis says:

:) I do love this picture, Jim! Wow, and aren’t those early devil costumes kind of scary? I don’t think they would let little kids wear something like that today!

  4. avatar Ralph says:

Janis, here’s a great video of your favorite performer. Boy, he looks so young.

    • Sue B Sue B says:

Ralph, so nice to hear from you!
Well I googled Peter Noone and he was born in 1947 so he would have been 19 in this video. Looks even younger. I like the lettering on the drum. Magic marker? Or electrical tape?
Stick around Ralph, we have quite the extravaganza planned for Dec 19th. And we planned it around you and Theresa so we’re counting on you!

      • Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert says:

As strange as it first hit me, it was interesting to see a writer create a song about love using an empty milk bottle on the front porch. AND, HH bassist is a LEFTY!

      • avatar Richard says:

I have them down for bringing the S├╝lze and the Speck for the appetizers..

    • avatar Janis says:

Raaaaaaalph! I LOVE this!!!!!! Thank you! (PANT! PANT!) Wow! Richard gave me my first HH albums…he didn’t want them when they came from his record club, so how fitting you put this up on his site all these years later! You guys are both sweethearts! :) :)

    • Jim Gilbert Jim Gilbert says:

Not to put a damper on things, but just read Interview with the ‘Hermits’ sans Herman(who still are active and performing in Europe), sharing that Peter was a real Prick(no pud, I mean, no pun intended). They said he always referred to the band, to this day as mere hirelings.

Hi Ms. Sue! That is a late 1957 picture of Mike, Tom and Janis in front of the Seeley house! That has to have been my first Halloween since I am 2 and a half! Love the way Mike’s arm is around me, and the fun masks we all have on! Very sentimental picture, and captures childhood. btw, Mom went on in future years and pretty much always made or helped us put together our outfits, but this is really cute to see those vintage store bought ones!
